Basildon Town v Old Southendian – Essex Olympian League Premier Division – Gardiners Close – Report
Basildon Town 3-0 Old Southendian
Altan Ali called upon his Old Southendian side to regroup and replicate after they were comfortably beaten by three unanswered goals at title-chasing Basildon Town.
Two goals from Graham Harrison and another from Michael Onafuye moved Town within a point of league leaders, Ongar Town. But Ali insisted his side isn’t a million miles from the in-form new-towners.
“They are a very good side and might well go on from this to win the title,” Ali told Yellow Sport.
“But we have good players too. It is all about consistency.
“I think we might need to strengthen in one or two areas to sustain a title charge of our own next season. But we have proved at times during the season that we can compete with the top teams. I don’t think we need to change too much.”
Ali added: “The top three deserve to be where they are. Each of them can claim they deserve to win the league.
“But we can learn from them. Look at what makes them tick and try to install it into our own mindset ahead of next season.”
